Dear Parents,

School is closed until April 20, 2020.  This week, teachers will be working hard to organize resources and prepare learn-at-home lessons.  The DOE is working to share updated and evolving information with families regularly.  For updates on the Coronavirus and the DOE’s response, please visit: School will be open from 7:30 am – 1:30 pm daily for students to pick up bagged breakfast and lunch.

Click here to read the latest letter from the Chancellor.

Stay tuned for a new Learn-at-home page that will be available under the students tab.  In the meantime, here are some resources that can help keep our students’ minds engaged during this time. We suggest, creating an at-home schedule for your child that includes:

  • iReady Reading for a minimum of 30 minutes daily
  • iReady Math for a minimum of 30 minutes daily
  • 1 hour of independent reading each day
  • Math fluency practice daily
  • 15 minutes of physical activity a minimum of 2 times per day
  • 30 minutes of writing daily

Learn-at-Home resources:

  • Please visit the DOE Learn at Home website which has grade-level resources and learning assignments.
  • iReady has put together at home learning packets for each grade in reading and math. When you go to the site scroll down to printable at home activity packs.
  • Explore science topics through fun lessons at Parents can also create free accounts.
  • Visit Fluency and fitness to practice skills while enjoying a fitness break! This site is offering families free access to their site for three weeks.
  • For a limited time, parents can get a 90 day FREE trial of DreamBox so children can learn at home. This resource is similar to iReady in that it tailors learning to your students.
  • Fluency Matters is offering a FREE trial for 21 days.

Check this page often as we will continue to add more resources daily.

During this time, we realize that families have many needs, not just academic.  We receive regular updates on local resources for families.  Please reach out to us at any time by completing THIS FORM to let us know what you need. At PS 15 staff member will reach out to you.

Help Your Child Get Ready to Read a Book

Often times parents ask, “How can I support my child in the books they bring home from school?” In this video clip below, you’ll see how Amanda helps Sophie get started in reading her book.

Adding Talking and Thinking to a Book

Get to know what your child is reading in school by asking them to read to you. Make it a fun and engaging experience by having them read a bit of their book to you and then together talk more about the characters. In the video, you’ll watch as Amanda and Tenzin read a little bit of Tenzin’s book and then stop to imagine what the characters might say or think.
